About us
Lougborough University and the British University in Egypt
Loughborough University and the British University in Egypt (BUE) are working in partnership to provide a range of high quality degree programmes in Egypt, together with additional progression routes through to programmes at Loughborough.
Loughborough University and the BUE have agreed a formal partnership, under which Loughborough University is validating the majority of the BUE's undergraduate programmes. BUE and Loughborough University have established rigorous partnership arrangements to assure the quality and standards of the degrees delivered at BUE which involves regular visits to the BUE by Loughborough staff.
Formal validation took place during 2007 for programmes in the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Informatics & Computer Science and the Faculty of Business Administration, Economics and Political Science.
For further details about the BUE, and the full range of degree programmes available, please see the BUE website.
The British University in Egypt
Built on approximately 40 acres (feddans) of land, the BUE was inaugurated on March 22, 2006 in a ceremony attended by Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.
BUE welcomed its first cohort of students in September 2005 when they began their degree studies on a state-of-the-art campus. Further campus developments will include a new library and a recreational complex.
The BUE is focused on encouraging personal integrity and academic excellence alongside fostering forward thinking philosophies, innovation and a strong teamwork spirit. Being research-led, the British style of education focuses not on WHAT to think, but on HOW to think.
BUE students will enjoy strong links with business partners in both Egypt and the UK, leading to a range of training opportunities, internships and field studies in Egypt and abroad.
Current Partnership Activities
In addition to the on-going development of the validation progress, the partnership is developing the following arrangements:
1. Progression routes
A number of progression routes have been agreed for students who have undertaken one or two years of study at the BUE. Students with strong grades will have the opportunity to apply to complete their studies at Loughborough. Details of agreements already in place are on the next page – and further agreements are likely to develop in the near future.

2. Joint PhD supervision
We are also looking to develop joint PhD supervision arrangements for research students – meaning that students could complete their Loughborough University PhD while spending significant parts of their time studying in Egypt. Special tuition fee arrangements may be available for joint PhD students.
3. British University in Egypt Tuition Fee Bursary
It has been agreed that all students progressing from the BUE to Loughborough will be offered a bursary to cover 20% for each year of study. However, if their degree involves a year in industry the 20% does not apply for that year.
